Exploring sustainability and global connections: Mohua’s MBA journey at Warwick Business School
From law to business: finding new pathways
“I’m from a small city in India and built my career in legal and compliance. After over ten years in the field, I started to feel like I needed new skills and experiences beyond law. As a chartered secretary, I’d worked closely with boards and directors. Exposure to these senior people highlighted some areas where I could further my knowledge, like sustainability and business strategy. That’s when I started considering an MBA, and Warwick’s focus on sustainability made it the perfect fit. I’d also previously started my own consultancy services, which opened my eyes to the broader scale of business: when you’re in a company, you’re focused on your role, but when you are running a business , you need a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of that business. This felt like the next step for me.”
Embracing new challenges at WBS
“Choosing to pause my career wasn’t easy. I had a stable role, and the transition from legal work to an MBA programme felt daunting. I reached out to a former colleague who helped me figure out how I could leverage my skills in a broader way. That encouragement, plus research into Warwick’s programme, made me confident this was the right path. My experience at Warwick has been very hassle-free so far. Everything’s well-organised, from accommodation to classes, and people are incredibly polite and welcoming - there’s always someone to help you.”
Discovering the power of a global cohort
“Meeting classmates from around the world has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. I’m learning so much from people from places like Mexico, China, and Thailand. It’s enriching both personally and professionally: I’ve connected with a Mexican lawyer in my cohort, and we’re looking to refer clients to each other in the future. The School has put us into syndicate groups, which have been incredibly valuable. They’ve really encouraged us to mingle with each other - it’s great for broadening your mind. There’s so much learning here, and I’m already absorbing loads of new materials. With an MBA, you get to see the strategic, the operational, all sides! I’m learning so much I can’t even tell you!”
Building connections before arrival
“CampusConnect was a good tool for meeting other candidates before arriving in the UK. I got to know fellow Indian students and even chatted with a few people from Ghana and the UK, which made the move a lot less intimidating. I also used LinkedIn, but found this more useful for simply following updates. With CampusConnect, I could chat to others and get involved in conversations.”
Looking ahead
“I’m hoping to spend a few years working in sustainability and eventually return to India to start my own business. My advice to anyone thinking about an MBA is simple: go for it if you’re clear on your goals. The exposure to new ideas and people is incredible, and it’s an experience I wish I’d had sooner.”
