Life in Maynooth
What do you enjoy most about life in your new town?
I would say everything. I always wanted to experience how it feels to be in a different culture. Ireland is so beautiful, and the people are so friendly that the minute I came here I felt welcomed.
Do you have any fun facts about your university?
It’s amazing to see both old and modern at the same time in the university and how the north (new) and south (old) campus is just separated by a road!
Do you have a favourite place in the university or in your town?
I really like visiting the river Boyne and Trim Castle. It’s a perfect place if you want to have a walk or enjoy some sight-seeing. I also like to hang around near the little lake (near Maynooth Railway Station). Then there’s the garden behind St. Patrick’s College…
Overcoming the challenges of moving to a new country
Was there anything difficult about your arrival at the university?
I would say finding vegetarian food, as I don’t eat meat and eggs. But now I think the university has more options in terms of vegan/vegetarian food compared to last year.
How could a prospective student prepare for a challenge you faced in your new country?
One challenge was the weather! Whenever in Ireland, do carry your raincoat - and a windcheater.
What do you wish you’d known before moving to university?
I would have planned my accommodation better. I live in Trim which is far from Maynooth and there is no direct public bus. I would have researched more accommodation on the train route or the public bus route.
The CampusConnect app
Can you sum up why you would recommend the app to prospective students?
The app is a platform to connect with the ambassadors and the people from international office. It’s really helpful in resolving any doubts and you get some really helpful suggestions and tips from the people, which can make your experience way better. It’s also a good way to know your future course mates and to build a network.
Do you have a tip for how to get the best out of the CampusConnect app?
I would say, when in doubt, just post and start seeking advice from the ambassadors. We are here to help you and guide you in the best way we can.
What made you want to become an ambassador?
I love Maynooth university! That’s all I can say.
