Life in Lockdown: How our CampusConnect international ambassadors are making the most of the down time

Hi everyone! Lauren here from the Campus Connect team. We hope you’re all doing well and looking after yourselves during this unsettling time.

Remember that you are not alone in facing this and that there’s always somebody to reach out to. We’ve been checking in with some of our Campus Connect ambassadors and alumni to find out how they’ve been staying safe (and sane!) during isolation.

Janaina

“I definitely sit in front of my window to observe the world outside. I also take some time to meditate, read the bible and pray. That’s what is keeping me sane!”

Janaina, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick Alumni

“I am an ambivert; I am good to go with any given circumstances. During this current isolated situation, I have got a lot to do. I utilise my time by singing songs and recording them and sharing them on social media. I also like reading blogs and watching vlogs and movies. I’m keeping in touch with family and friends, doing assignments, going for a walk or just sitting by the river on campus near where I stay.”

Ankita

“To keep myself entertained I’ve been dedicating a full 3 hours to binge-watching! I also go for evening walks and talk to family and friends every day. I make sure I’m working on assignments and presentations regularly. This has given me the opportunity to cook more and try out new recipes which I never got time to. So, I’m kind of enjoying this time of isolation here in Ireland – I’m also getting to know the weather of this country very well!”

Xinde

“The one thing I’ve been doing to make me happy is painting because it helps me to relax and keep my mind motivated.”

Jamiu

“I’m taking the experience one day at a time; I follow a routine to stay in check. I try to do weekly exercises that require no equipment and rest properly. Taking short consistent break sessions when I am working on school and personal work has also helped. I watch movies, listen to music & interact with friends via audio, video call and chat during my free time. I also try to keep myself up to date about the ongoing situation.”

Vinay

“I like to do some warm-up exercises outside or maybe go for a walk. I now get more time to explore my cooking skills and eat whilst watching some great TV shows! One thing that’s keeping me particularly happy is that I’m seeing more of my family and dedicating more time to my studies – even if it is all online. For me, this is a really good time to pause and evaluate yourself and what you’ve done until now to understand whether you’re on track for what you need to achieve.”

Lauren

“I’m currently isolating back home in Santa Cruz, California on my family’s farm! One thing that has kept me sane is cooking and baking. Since I can’t travel, I have been making food from around the world. My favourite has been Polish pierogi. The first thing I’m going to do when lockdown ends is go to my favourite brunch spot with my friends!”

It’s great that so many of you are finding the positives in this situation and trying to make good use of the time. It’s times like this when we feel especially grateful for technology too, which means we’re only ever a message away from a friendly face.

Stay safe,

The Campus Connect Team
