Bringing students together by sharing their stories - meet Ruth
Hello hello. My name is Ruth Foran. I am a 23 year old Irish girl currently globe-trotting and trying to find her way in the world.
Where did you study? Any reflections on your time as a student?
I studied English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of Manchester. Moving from where I grew up and studying in Manchester was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Manchester, in my opinion, is a great student city. There is an electric buzz, a love for life and the people are infectiously friendly! I made memories and friends for life there. When I think back to ‘student’ me - I knew everything yet nothing at all.
You wade between becoming an adult and figuring out all of this ‘real life’ stuff. Being a student is such a fun experience, not only do you get the chance to study in-depth something you enjoy, but you learn who you are as a person. An invaluable experience for me.
What’s your favourite biscuit?
My friends and I often debate what we think is the OG ‘lunch box’ biscuit/chocolate bar. We’ve all been there, opening our lunch box in primary school and being so disappointed with what’s inside. For me, the real winner has to be Time Out bar. Wafer chocolate, not leaving you too full afterwards. It ticks all of the boxes!
Can you tell us a joke?
What do you call an elephant that doesn’t matter? An irrelephant!
Why do you like chatting with students/ambassadors?
I find chatting with both students and ambassadors really enjoyable because it makes me relive the university experience again and again.
Each person has something important and rewarding to say, a slice of knowledge that I believe can change anyone’s opinion or thought process. To be the bridge between both of these is something I find inspiring, and CampusConnect is definitely an app I would have appreciated and utilised at university myself.
What's the funniest thing a student/ambassador has said to you?
I was interviewing an ambassador, Shree Pranav, about his experience studying in the UK. One question I always like to ask in my interviews is what do they know that they wish ‘previous them’ knew beforehand. Shree told me about how his clothes all shrunk in the UK because of the dryer – that really tickled me!
